Lullaby/Peril Updates

Probably the single best way to keep up with The Last Lullaby and Peril is to receive our monthly e-mail updates.  All you have to do is send an e-mail to register@thelastlullaby.com or register@perilthemovie.com

Here's a copy of our latest update that went out this past Friday:

THE LAST LULLABY (AND) PERIL UPDATE
April 23, 2010

Thank you all for taking time to register for our updates. Today I will cover four topics:

- MovieMaker Reboot!

- Next Peril Event

- Lullaby News
- Other Fun Stuff

MovieMaker Reboot!

I'm very excited to announce that I have resumed my blog with MovieMaker, "the world's best-selling independent movie magazine".  MovieMaker has decided to reboot my favorite film from 1926-2008 series that I have been doing for the last several months over at the LULLABY/PERIL blog.  This reboot will bring a whole new audience to the series, and I hope some of you will visit, too:
http://www.moviemaker.com/blog/category/i_found_it_at_the_movies/

I also will be documenting LULLABY/PERIL on my new blog for MovieMaker.
*For most of last year, I blogged weekly for MovieMaker. These posts can be found here:

Next Peril Event

All is going great with PERIL. One of the most fun things we've been doing lately is periodic chats on the internet, using ustream.  This technology allows everyone to tune in at a certain time, see and hear me, and converse using a chat box.  We have our next ustream chat this Tuesday at 9PM, CST.  All of you can tune in from your computer, anywhere in the world, simply by visiting:

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/prize-for-our-next-target-2-000-fans

An account with ustream is free, but you will need to sign up in order to enable a chat box.  It's a great, new tool. And here's video from our last ustream chat to give you a sense of how they work:
http://cahierspositif.blogspot.com/2010/04/video-from-this-weeks-peril-chat_11.html

Lullaby News

I will keep you posted on new developments for THE LAST LULLABY.  In the upcoming issue of Videoscope magazine (http://www.videoscopemag.com/), there is a wonderful review of the film as well as a fantastic piece, written about LULLABY by Max Allan Collins.  There's also this really nice interview I did recently: http://www.erbzine.com/mag31/3113.html

Other Fun Stuff

And just a reminder: over at the PERIL Facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=249626084292&ref=ts), we're doing a daily movie trivia game.  Each day's winner will be entered into a drawing to win a role as an extra while we're filming PERIL.  The movie trivia game will continue until we hit 3,000 members.  At that time, we'll have the drawing.  We're having fun with it, and I hope that many of you will join the group and come play with us.
Lastly, as I mentioned in my previous update, I have created several places for people to begin following PERIL.  Here are all the different places we have so far. I hope that many of you will join us here:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Peril/266972237358?ref=ts
http://twitter.com/chaillotfilms
e-mail updates (simply send an e-mail to register@perilthemovie.com)
Thank you all for your incredible support.  I couldn't be more excited about the road ahead.  As always, if you have any questions, hit reply and your e-mail will come to me.
Please keep spreading the word!  You guys are the best.

Video from this week's PERIL chat

Earlier this week, I did a chat on ustream about Peril.  It's the third one we've done, but the first that we recorded.  Here it is in its entirety:

Fun News!

I have two things to report:

1.  Our first, in-person PERIL event is coming up. It will be in Shreveport on Tuesday, March 23rd at 7PM, Starbucks on Line Avenue. I look forward to seeing many of you there.  It will be extremely informal but very fun.

2.  My other blog, "Adventures in Self-Releasing", was just chosen as one of the 50 Best Filmmaker blogs. I thought this was a very cool honor, especially being mentioned along with some of my other favorite blogs.

1st Peril Event!

Tomorrow night will mark our first official event for my new film, Peril. It will be an online discussion about the prize for our next target -- 2,000 fans of our Facebook group (we already hit 1,000, and I shared a few pages from the Peril script.)

To join the conversation, simply type in the following URL (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/prize-for-our-next-target-2-000-fans) at 9PM CST, February 24th.  You can log in from anywhere, on your computer, and see me.  Then you can type in ideas, and we'll determine together our next prize.

I can't wait.  It should be a whole lot of fun!

Some Harmless (and hopefully fun) Movie Trivia

I just recently started a Facebook group and fan page for my new film, Peril:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=249626084292&ref=ts
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Peril/266972237358?ref=ts

As part of the group, I'll be doing a daily trivia game.  Here are the questions I've asked so far (they've all been answered).  I hope some of you will join the group and hop into the game from time to time, as well. The answers are all among my favorite films:

Question #1  In this movie, the guy from JAWS pals around with the guy from HOOSIERS?
Question #2  In this movie, Dorothy's husband directs Warren Beatty's sister and a couple of Vegas guys?
Question #3  This movie featuring Keith Jarrett and the Maniac did not win the coveted Palme D'Or. It would take the director eight more years to win the top prize in the film industry.
Question #4  This movie features the Canadian Bob Dylan and Bill's half-brother?
Question #5  In this movie, Ferdinand decides to end it all by painting his face blue and wrapping dynamite around his head?
Question #6  This movie features Laverne's buddy and Han Solo.
Question #7  She once liked David and Martin, in this movie she kinda likes Jeffrey, too?

Cinephiles

Admittedly, I'm way late on this, but there's some tremendous work being done on some blogs across the country. We're talking, major cinephiles, having serious, very thoughtful discussions about film and cinema. Here are a few of my faves I've unfortunately only recently discovered:

http://kolson-kevinsblog.blogspot.com/
http://mooninthegutter.blogspot.com/
http://sergioleoneifr.blogspot.com/
http://wondersinthedark.wordpress.com/
http://tsutpen.blogspot.com/
http://www.yggnoise.com/
http://antagonie.blogspot.com/
http://cinemastyles.blogspot.com/

You a lonely cinephile? Can't find anyone with whom to dialogue? Check out these guys. I was once living in Los Angeles and handing out flyers to strangers leaving the arthouses, just hoping I could find some fellow cinephiles. I'm so appreciative to find these guys and a few others.

Many of them have been very supportive of LULLABY and me, too. In the last two days, Kevin Olson over at "Hugo Stiglitz Makes Movies" ran these two pieces on us:

Peter Broderick

No one seems to be leading the charge as much as Peter Broderick. Think we're lucky to have people out there, recognizing some of the challenges facing independent film and coming up with some viable solutions:

http://www.indiewire.com/article/declaration_of_independence_the_ten_principles_of_hybrid_distribution/

Is it a bloodbath out there?

Strong piece. Not the most uplifting thing you'll read today but good food for thought:

The Last Lullaby Update

All right everyone, this is my first time blogging so bear with me as I figure it all out. Just wanted to mention a few things:

1. I'm now blogging once a week for MovieMaker magazine. The blog publishes every Friday, and you can find it at this link http://www.moviemaker.com/blog/category/adventures_in_self_releasing/

2. We had a great festival in Oxford. They added a second screening of the film on Sunday, and we received, among other reviews, this excellent piece in the local paper:
http://www.thelocalvoice.net/LocalVoice-PDFs/TLV-73-web.pdf (see page 11)

Next festival is Cinequest in San Jose, CA (we screen there March 7th and 8th.) We received this fantastic review today http://www.bohemian.com/metro/02.18.09/film-cinequest-0907.html

3. I have just started twittering. Would love for you all of you to follow along and let me know what you'd like to hear about. You can find me here http://twitter.com/chaillotfilms

4. Am doing a lot of speaking engagements and social events in and around the Shreveport-Bossier area as we prepare for our theatrical release in May. If you're not already, would love for all of you to join our Facebook group
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=36795896621

Lullaby is growing. And I can't thank everyone enough for their support.
