Thank you all for taking time to register for our updates.  Today I will cover four topics:

- Facebook Fan Page!

Peril Interviews/Chats

In the last few weeks, a great interview and two new live chats have appeared for PERIL.  Take a look if you have a chance.  They're all fantastic:

Lullaby News

I will keep you posted on new developments for THE LAST LULLABY.  In the meantime, keep an eye out for Sasha Alexander's new TV show, Rizzoli & Isles (also starring Angie Harmon and Lorraine Bracco), coming to TNT beginning July 12th.

Other Fun Stuff

And just a reminder: over at the PERIL Facebook Fan Page, we're doing a daily movie trivia game.  Each day's winner will be entered into a drawing to win a role as an extra (including his/her name in the final credits) while we're filming PERIL.  The movie trivia game will continue until we hit 3,000 members.  At that time, we'll have the drawing. We're having fun with it, and I hope that many of you will join the Page and come play with us.

Lastly, as I mentioned in my previous update, I have created several places for people to begin following PERIL.  Here are all the different places we have so far.  I hope that many of you will join us here:

Good news -- MovieMaker Reboot!

Before I started this blog, I was doing weekly posts over on MovieMaker Magazine's website.  Those posts ended around November of last year. But good news: MovieMaker has asked me to reboot "my favorite film from 1926-2008" series for their site.

Starting yesterday, I have a new series at MovieMaker entitled "I Found It At The Movies" (a tribute to one of my favorite film critics Pauline Kael's first compilation I Lost It At The Movies).  This series will begin with 1926 and unfold in chronological order.  I have added one new section to each post, entitled "What moviemakers can learn".

I'm very excited to be continuing this great relationship with MovieMaker and can't thank everyone enough for your support of this series so far.  It's been a great ride.

1st Peril Event!

Tomorrow night will mark our first official event for my new film, Peril. It will be an online discussion about the prize for our next target -- 2,000 fans of our Facebook group (we already hit 1,000, and I shared a few pages from the Peril script.)

To join the conversation, simply type in the following URL (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/prize-for-our-next-target-2-000-fans) at 9PM CST, February 24th.  You can log in from anywhere, on your computer, and see me.  Then you can type in ideas, and we'll determine together our next prize.

I can't wait.  It should be a whole lot of fun!

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans

Last night I went to the local arthouse (Robinson Film Center in Shreveport, LA) to see this new film, and honestly I didn't know what to expect.  I knew it was directed by one of the most famous German directors in the history of film, Werner Herzog.  And I knew that it was somewhat of a loose extension of an earlier, "cult" film (simply Bad Lieutenant) starring Harvey Keitel.  But that was about all I knew.

Well, all this to say, I really enjoyed it.  If you're familiar with Herzog's previous work, it certainly feels like HIS film.  It's absurd, zany, and perhaps even messy, but all in an artful and emotionally complex way. Somehow, Herzog is able to perserve the spirit of the original film while taking it somewhere that is altogether new and different.

Highlights for me include a truly wonderful Nicolas Cage performance and a fantastic score by veteran composer, Mark Isham.  More than anything though, it's the film's energy that really grabbed me.  Often times, the film ventures into places that are incredulous, confusing, even awesomely bizarre, but because it does it all with absolute conviction (think Ian Curtis dancing), it never managed to lose me.

I usually champion films that approach the crime genre straight, not in an ironic way.  But here Herzog's treatment is so contagious that I can't help but mention it.  In many ways, it reminds me of David Cronenberg's two recent entries (History of Violence and Eastern Promises) into the genre.  It makes me realize that it's these sort of things, great directors working with new genres, that help keep them fresh and alive.  After last night, I would be more than thrilled to see Herzog make another crime film.

Some Harmless (and hopefully fun) Movie Trivia

I just recently started a Facebook group and fan page for my new film, Peril:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=249626084292&ref=ts
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Peril/266972237358?ref=ts

As part of the group, I'll be doing a daily trivia game.  Here are the questions I've asked so far (they've all been answered).  I hope some of you will join the group and hop into the game from time to time, as well. The answers are all among my favorite films:

Question #1  In this movie, the guy from JAWS pals around with the guy from HOOSIERS?
Question #2  In this movie, Dorothy's husband directs Warren Beatty's sister and a couple of Vegas guys?
Question #3  This movie featuring Keith Jarrett and the Maniac did not win the coveted Palme D'Or. It would take the director eight more years to win the top prize in the film industry.
Question #4  This movie features the Canadian Bob Dylan and Bill's half-brother?
Question #5  In this movie, Ferdinand decides to end it all by painting his face blue and wrapping dynamite around his head?
Question #6  This movie features Laverne's buddy and Han Solo.
Question #7  She once liked David and Martin, in this movie she kinda likes Jeffrey, too?

Peril

For the last several weeks, I've been using this blog to detail more of my film-watching.  And I completely intend on continuing this as I move forward.

This blog has always been a place to find out the latest news on THE LAST LULLABY.  So now that I'm officially moving into the early stages of my next project, PERIL, I'll be providing periodic updates here on the new film, as well.

What to tell you for now:

It's a new installment in the "young boy in peril" genre.  Milo, an eleven-year-old boy, will be our guide as he searches for safety and a place to call home.  The script's in great shape.  And I will begin taking meetings with prospective investors in the next few weeks.

Ways to follow along:

I'm starting fan pages and updates much sooner this time around, allowing people to participate in the entire process, from start to finish. Join us at the various places below and be the first to learn as we share pages from the script, casting decisions, storyboards, early location pictures, production stills, and clips from the movie as we begin to assemble them.

Cinephiles

Admittedly, I'm way late on this, but there's some tremendous work being done on some blogs across the country. We're talking, major cinephiles, having serious, very thoughtful discussions about film and cinema. Here are a few of my faves I've unfortunately only recently discovered:

http://kolson-kevinsblog.blogspot.com/
http://mooninthegutter.blogspot.com/
http://sergioleoneifr.blogspot.com/
http://wondersinthedark.wordpress.com/
http://tsutpen.blogspot.com/
http://www.yggnoise.com/
http://antagonie.blogspot.com/
http://cinemastyles.blogspot.com/

You a lonely cinephile? Can't find anyone with whom to dialogue? Check out these guys. I was once living in Los Angeles and handing out flyers to strangers leaving the arthouses, just hoping I could find some fellow cinephiles. I'm so appreciative to find these guys and a few others.

Many of them have been very supportive of LULLABY and me, too. In the last two days, Kevin Olson over at "Hugo Stiglitz Makes Movies" ran these two pieces on us:

To Be Continued...

...I will be getting married on Friday and so a little less present on the blog this week. But I promise to return next week.

Have a great week, everyone, and thank you so much for all the support!

Good Stuff

Lullaby's first DVD promotion an extraordinary success. Thank you everyone! 358 new members in our Facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=36795896621&ref=ts) in the last three days. That's serious support.

Don't forget, still have a few other promotions:

http://cahierspositif.blogspot.com/2009/09/lullaby-promotions.html

And if the Facebook group gets to 2,000, it becomes a 25% discount.

Thanks, everyone, who spread the word, got their friends to join, etc. It's really nice looking on the group's page and seeing a bunch of new faces.
